Mon 23 Feb, 2026Former international Frank Pritchard is set to lead an exciting new era for Fetu Samoa after being appointed as coach ahead of IRL Rugby League World Cup 2026.
Pritchard, a respected figure in the rugby league community, brings a wealth of elite-level experience to the role, having represented Toa Samoa, as well as New Zealand, and enjoying a successful career across the NRL and Super League.
He has been a member of the coaching staff of both Toa Samoa and Fetu Samoa, most recently working under Jamie Soward in the RLWC2026 qualifying campaign and 2025 Pacific Cup.
Pritchard expressed both pride and determination in accepting this role.
"This is a huge honour for me," Pritchard said. "To be given the opportunity to lead Fetu Samoa on the world stage is something I don't take lightly.
"Our people, our culture, and our jersey mean everything.
"Selection will be based on form, commitment, and alignment with our team standards that represents Samoa with heart."
Pritchard also emphasised the importance of the journey that the team has embarked on to qualify for the World Cup.
"Success won't come overnight," he added. "But if we stay connected, committed, and true to who we are as Samoans, I believe we can achieve something special together."
Preparations for the World Cup will begin immediately, with further coaching staff appointments.
Fetu Samoa will play the Jillaroos in the opening Women's World Cup match at CommBank Stadium on October 16.
The Pacific nation, who beat Tonga and Fiji in 2024 to qualify for RLWC2026 before defeating PNG in a promotion-relegation match for last year's Pacific Cup, will then face Wales on October 23 and England on October 30.
